| Koji Kasatani After studying ceramic techniques in Florence, Italy, and returning to Japan, she continued to create works that transcended the boundaries of ceramics, eventually encountering bananas. Since then, she has continued to create works featuring bananas. I love bananas. Cute yellow color, sweet and delicious, gives a feeling of happiness, the feel when you hold it in your hand, the nice scent, the color changes and sugar spot patterns, the beautiful large leaves, good for blood pressure, the subtle folds on the underside of the skin, its striking presence, and so on... I found the shape of bananas interesting, so I tried making them, and I discovered I could express so many different things with them, which made it even more fun, so I made more and more, and before I knew it, I had been making bananas for about 17 years. I guess bananas are the theme that has been given to me for my creative work. Lately, when I meet someone for the first time, they say, "Oh, you're the banana guy, right?" and strangely enough, it makes me happy when they say that. |
