Makoto Egashira Born in Mie Prefecture in 1986. He creates three-dimensional works and installations using floral blankets, which were uniquely popular in postwar Japan, as his main material. In 2015, he won the Special Prize at the 18th Taro Okamoto Contemporary Art Award for his work "Jingujimiyagata Hachimune-zukuri," in which he decorated a polystyrene foam hearse with blankets. The following year, he won the Grand Prix at SICF17 for his work "Flower Garden," in which he created a Western-style toilet out of blankets. His major exhibitions include Rokko Meets Art: Art Walk 2019, BIWAKO Biennale 2022, and Roppongi Art Night 2023. In addition to exhibitions, he has participated in artwork for artist YUKI's music video for "My lovely ghost" and GUCCI's short film "Kaguya by Gucci." |
