Rune Panda is Japan's first panda character, created by Rune Naito, a multi-talented creator known as the "Roots of Kawaii." When René first saw a panda at the London Zoo in the 1960s, he was so impressed by its cuteness that he immediately created the first illustrations and characters of a panda in Japan upon his return. This was in 1971, exactly one year before the panda boom began when Lan Lan and Kang Kang arrived at Ueno Zoo. With its adorable face featuring drawn eyelashes and blush, and its anthropomorphic expressions and poses, "Rune Panda" quickly became immensely popular and has been loved by people of all ages for over half a century. |
