ARTIST |
Arai Ryoji Born in Yamagata Prefecture in 1956. He has received high acclaim both at home and abroad, including the JBBY Award for "Taiyo Organ," the Sankei Children's Publishing Culture Award Grand Prize for "As it's morning, so I'll open the window," and the Japan Picture Book Award Grand Prize for "Today the sky is round with a moon." In 2005, he became the first Japanese to receive the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Prize for Literature. He has also expanded the scope of his activities by illustrating the opening credits for the NHK morning drama "Jun to Ai" and becoming artistic director of the Michinoku Art Festival Yamagata Biennale. |
