| Arai Ryoji Born in Yamagata Prefecture in 1956, he has received acclaim both at home and abroad, including the JBBY Award for "Sun Organ," the Sankei Children's Publishing Culture Award Grand Prize for "It's Morning, So I'll Open the Window," and the Japan Picture Book Award Grand Prize for "Today's Sky is Full of Moon." In 2005, he became the first Japanese to receive the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Prize for Literature. He has also expanded the scope of his activities, including illustrating the opening credits for the NHK morning drama "Jun to Ai" and serving as artistic director of the Yamagata Biennale of Art Festivals in the Middle East. |
