| Ryoji Arai Born in Yamagata Prefecture in 1956, she has received numerous accolades both domestically and internationally. These include the JBBY Award for "Taiyo Organ," the Sankei Children's Publishing Culture Award Grand Prize for "Asa ni Natta node Mado o Akemasu yo," and the Japan Picture Book Award Grand Prize for "Kyou wa Sora ni Marui Tsuki." In 2005, she became the first Japanese person to receive the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award. She has also expanded her activities by creating the opening illustrations for the NHK serial drama "Jun to Ai" and serving as the artistic director of the "Michinoku Art Festival Yamagata Biennale." |
