Nijo Castle, which was registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994, has been made into a miniature figure by Tomohiro Yasui, a famous sculptor and creator of the paper craft "Kamirobo". .
Nijo Castle was built in 1603 (Keicho 8) by Tokugawa Ieyasu, the first shogun of the Edo shogunate, to protect the Kyoto Imperial Palace, where the emperor lived, and to serve as an accommodation for the shogun when he came to Kyoto. It is known as a valuable historical heritage that has seen the rise and fall of the family and the long history of Japan. It is also famous as the place where in 1867 (Keio 3), the 15th Shogun Yoshinobu expressed his intention to ``return the imperial government'' in the Great Hall of Ninomaru Palace.
