Nijo Castle, which was registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994, has been made into a miniature figurine based on a prototype created by sculptor Yasui Tomohiro, who is famous for his paper craft "Kamirobo" works.
Nijo Castle was built in 1603 (Keicho 8) by Tokugawa Ieyasu, the first Shogun of the Edo Shogunate, to protect the Kyoto Imperial Palace where the Emperor lived and to serve as a lodging facility for the Shogun when he visited Kyoto, and is known as a valuable historical heritage that has witnessed the rise and fall of the Tokugawa clan and the long history of Japan. It is also famous as the place where the 15th Shogun, Yoshinobu, declared his intention to "return political power to the Emperor" in the great hall of Ninomaru Palace in 1867 (Keio 3).
There are five types in the lineup. The "Shogun Meeting Scene" is a reproduction of the Ninomaru Palace Meeting Scene, and the "Castle Tower" is a reproduction of the "Rakuchu Rakugaizu byobu" (Ikeda version: owned by Hayashibara Museum of Art), a highly artistically valuable folding screen depicting the city and suburbs of Kyoto that was passed down to the Ikeda family, the feudal lords of Okayama. The lineup includes the National Treasure "Ninomaru Palace," the Important Cultural Property "Karamon," and the southeast corner tower of the existing corner towers. The products are packed with a wide range of appeal, from the actual buildings of Nijo Castle to related works of art.
